Leeds Schools F.A. 1 v 0 York Schools F.A

There exists an intense but healthy rivalry between these two sides, the Leeds players did themselves proud with an away win of great merit. In a keenly fought contest Leeds scored through a long range strike from Ollie Roberts [Garforth].Both teams provided their respective supporters with a thoroughly enjoyable game in difficult weather conditions. All the Leeds squad played to the top of their game   in securing this win which went some way to redressing the results of previous encounters.

 Leeds Schools F.A. 1 V 0 Wolverhampton Schools F.A.

Leeds embarked on their annual tour with high hopes following a run of consisitent good performances. Playing with the wind it was Leeds who exerted the early pressure on the Wolves defence. On the Leeds left flank Ashley Coffey (Woodkirk) combined well with Billy Law (Rodillian) playing in Toyan Dore (Roundhay) who shot narrowly wide. With Bradley Wilson (Wortley) marshalling the defence alongside Taranjit Matharu (Allerton Grange) and Richard Vennard (Horsforth) Leeds dominiation spread throughout the team. It was Wolves however who gained the first and subsequent corners, Ashley Timms (Rodillian) in the Leeds goal proved he was up to the task. With both teams seeking to take control of the game the deadlock was broken when a splendid through ball from Tom Verney (Brigshaw) found Will Lenehan (Leeds Grammar) who fired the ball home from distance. The second half saw Leeds playing into an ever increasing wind and although chances fell to both teams it was the Leeds team that kept their noses in front, Joe Barden (Wetherby) typified the attitude of the tykes with his tireless coverage of the pitch.

Leeds Schools F.A.2 V 1 Brierley Schools F.A.

The confidence in the Leeds team was self evident as they took the initiative from the kick off and laid seige to the Brierley goal. Such was the superiority of the Leeds performance it was a full fifteen minutes before Brierley managed an attack of their own. James Crowther [P.Grangefield] looked assured in the Leeds goal and Jameel Ible [Mt .St.Marys] controlled things at the back launching Leeds forward in yet another attack . However despite Leeds having the majority of the play half time saw a surprising scoreline of 0-0.

Justice was done after Jamie Taylor [Garforth] and Glen Hewitt [T.Moor] put through Toyan Dore [Roundhay] for Leeds to take the lead. Further chances fell to Leeds but they were unable to convert their efforts against an increasingly physical Brierley side. With Leeds holding their nerve and remaining patient Billy Law [Rodillian] added some realism to the game when he scored Leeds' second.

In the dying minutes a dubious penalty decision gave the home side a consolation goal. Leeds maintained their 100% tour record much to the delight of coaching staff and parents alike.

Thanks must be extended to Steve Wales and Matthew Keddy  for their dynamism and enthusiasm in leading the squad , and to Jackie Batley for organising such an enjoyable tour.

Thanks must also go to Antoinette, the shepherdess for 'her' insightful regalings, the livestock's loss was surely our gain!

Huddersfield Academy 0 v 2 Leeds Schools F.A

Saturday, 17th September 2005

Leeds began their 2005 campaign with a short trip down the M62 , their hosts being none other than a much fancied Huddersfield side . The match official was a sprightly septagenarian with more than a passing resemblance to Don Estelle! I digress ,back to the football. The first 10 minutes saw Leeds on the defensive as Huddersfield on their home soil sought to take an early advantage .Leeds however held firm,  with Richard Vennard [Horsforth] and Jameel Ible [Mt. St. Marys] looking particularly impressive. The visitors then launched several attacks of their own and were rewarded with a goal after fine interchange of play between Glen Hewitt [T.Moor] and Toyan Dore [Roundhay] , the ball then found the feet of Ollie Roberts [Garforth] who struck a fierce shot home from the edge of the box.

With Huddersfield trying desperately to get back on level terms they were restricted to shooting from long range thanks to the industry of a hardworking Leeds midfield. Not to be outdone  Leeds responded with some attacking play of their own and forced Huddersfield into some frantic defending. Leeds gained a free kick some twenty five yards from the Huddersfield net , Ashley Coffey [Woodkirk] stepped forward and extended Leeds lead with a beautiful drive into the roof of the net. It was now end to end stuff, James Crowther [P.Grangefield] in the Leeds goal denied Huddersfield with a succession of excellent saves.

Leeds also came close when Billy Law [Rodillian] saw his effort fly over the Hudderfield crossbar.

Leeds now managed to exploit the space on the pitch with greater efficiency and were unlucky when Joe Barden [Wetherby ] hit the the woodwork. A cruel tackle on Jameel Ible by an increasingly physical home side saw him limp from the pitch. With some restructuring in the Leeds ranks Huddersfield pressed forward gaining a dubious penalty. Ashley Timms now in the Leeds goal held his nerve and his ground and produced a fine save. Both sides now sought to dominate the play, for Leeds both Glen Hewitt [T.Moor] and Taranjit Matharu [A.Grange] looked strong and full of vigour as did Will Lenehan [Lds Grammar] who

was unfortunate to sustain an injury late in the game.Full credit must also go to Tom Verney [Royds] for a fine display on the left flank, to Brad Wilson [Wortley] and Stephen Blower [Mt.St.Marys] for their contributions on the right, and to Jamie Taylor [Garforth] with an impressive debut.

The Leeds team left the pitch in something of a bouyant mood, and the Leeds supporters looking forward to the next fixture.
