Teams U11 - U15 : U12's Match Reports (latest match report first)

LEEDS  3  SHEFFIELD  1 - 12th February 2005

It wasn't the ideal weather for football and Sheffield are a very good side but we played excellently and deservedly came out ahead Todd to put us one nil up at the interval. An all round brilliant hard working half.

The second half we started brightly and created chance after chance. 5 minutes into the half a lovely move in which Brook produced the pass of the game splitting the Sheffield defence wide open, was finished superbly by Doherty. Sheffield then had nothing to lose and pulled a goal back from a corner that first half we were defending with ease. Sheffield's impressive number 9 then made some really good runs and caused a few problems but Griffiths gave us the win and no one could argue with the performance and determination we showed. Sweet revenge for the defeat earlier in the season.

This kind of performance is what we come to expect of the lads. We have now achieved a good team spirit but We must not get complacent.

Coventry 2- Leeds 2 Tuesday, 8th February 2005

A game in mid week, during my week off as well, great. We started very strong and set out our stall early. Early chances went begging and Coventry to cause some problems. Wingfield. 2-1 up slightly against the run of play. Coventry finished the half the stronger and we rewarded for fine play with a sloppy goal. 2-2 at half time.

After a pulsating first half everyone thought it would be a high scoring game but sadly the scoring stopped there, which was a pity because some of the play was outstanding. At times we were holding on but still had the more clear cut chances, in fact some of our best football was played in the last 15 minutes and again going forward we started to cause some real problems. On the whole a fair result against a very good side.

U12's v Blackburn (A) 5th Feb Blackburn 1 Leeds 3

Anyone who was at the game witnessed a FANTASTIC performance. Real grit and determination was evident. Every one of the lads was up for the game against a strong Blackburn outfit. Right from the word go, good strong tackles and excellent movement was taking place. Sam Dibb, Marc Brook really showed their fighting spirit.

Mid way through the first half we opened the dead lock with a fine goal from Jack Griffiths after an excellent cross from Brook.

The inevitable happened and we went 2 - 0 up. Dylan Horwell's free kick nestled in to the top corner, he assures me it was a shot and not a cross. Again as in the first half Blackburn started to press and with five minutes to go pulled a goal back and we were in for a nail biting finish. Although that was until Edwards hit them on the counter with a fantastic finish, which deserved to be a goal after the beautiful through ball from Toddy.

U12's v Blackburn  (H), 29th Jan. Leeds 0 Blackburn 3

No disrespect to Blackburn but we did not perform what so ever. There were no real highlights and they came to do a job and that is what they did. They hustled and bustled, we basically did not want to know. A poor performance in which everyone associated with us were disappointed in. I am sure the lads went home very annoyed. Luckily enough we had chance to avenge the defeat the following week and boy did we do that.

Leeds City F.A U12's   4    Leicester City F.A U12's  0 4th December 2004

A good, strong performance from Leeds after a couple of setbacks in recent weeks.

Leeds started the match brightly & was quickly into their stride with a well taken goal from Declan Doherty after some good work by Joe Wingfield & Rennal Edwards.

Despite some good chances the game stayed 1 - 0 until the second half when striker Jack Griffiths nodded in Brandon Irvings cut back from the byline.

Rennal Edwards soon added his name to the score sheet, lifting the ball over the advancing Leicester keeper before Brandon Irving rounded off a good afternoon with a superb solo effort for the fourth.

As ever Leeds Backline of Sam Hewitt, George Hall, James Hawley, Sam Hashmi, & George Hunt defended solidly against a lively Leicester attack, keepers Shaun Harper & Tom White were more than a match for them.

Marc Brook continued his excellent form with another commanding performance in midfield alongside skipper Dylan Horwell.

Leeds also welcomed Declan Kearney back after a couple of weeks out with a broken foot & will have been pleased to see him make his familiar strong runs down the wing which had been missing in previous weeks.

Leeds proved with this performance that on their day they can be a formidable force.

Match Report for Leeds City Boys v North Tyneside - 13th November 2004

Leeds were indeed quick to test the Tyneside lines as Joe Wingfield threatened to score within the first two minutes of the match.

Tyneside began to get a little more aggressive as they were unable to stop Leeds pushing forward

Leeds picked this point to put the advantage towards the end of the first third, scoring the first illusive goal of the match.

The second third began where the first had finished.

Five minutes in and a throw to Mark Brook who takes a high shot on the Tyneside goal, passing just wide of the net in what would have been an amazing goal, fully deserved!

Hawley, from right back, at the end of the second twenty minutes, again found himself with a chance, and this time was determined to take advantage. Making sure this time he launched an unstoppable shot at the top left hand corner of the Newcastle goal, giving Leeds a 2-0 advantage.

The final third saw Leeds again playing with the advantage. A shot across the Leeds goal saw an own goal knocked in off the feet of an unsuspecting defender. Leeds still in front, 2-1.

Wolves U12   2     Leeds U12  2    29th October 2004

"Probably our best TEAM performance of this season, so far!"

We started the game slowly (again) but quickly got into our stride. Grif got us of the mark with a typical poacher's goal. Our boys started to get a grip on the game and battled hard against a side that could have easily been mistaken for a rugby team.

Wolves made changes in the second half and hit us on the break with two classy strikes. We never lie down though, we showed great team spirit and our will not to lose was present again.

The introduction of Sean Harper (aka Thierry Henry) brought a whole new threat to the Wolves back line. Doherty drew us level with another one of his wonder strikes and from there we could have won the game. Although a superb save by the Wolves No. 1 kept the scores level, after excellent work by Harps. All in all a top performance.

Walsall U12  2    Leeds U12   4      30th October 2004

A typical strong Leeds performance. Rennal started the scoring and Grif showed some real class to help himself to a hat trick although he nearly ended up with egg on his face after trying to execute a flick into the net. On the whole defensively we played and didn't really deserve to concede two goals. We are not the complete package yet but we certainly have got the potential to be we are slowly getting there.

Leeds v Bradford (away)16th October

The anticipation could really be felt prior to the start of this match. Last year at U11 Bradford fielded an incredibly strong team which meant the parents were somewhat nervous about what was likely to be the outcome of this match. From the very first touch the ball was moving at an incredible pace which appeared almost impossible to sustain. Bradford took the ball early and passed the ball around the pitch quickly, precisely and with great finesse. A real pleasure to watch! Leeds were quick to the ball but Bradford were just controlling the ball so well it was difficult for the Leeds players to even get hold of it. When we did we were equally impressive though.  From here on Leeds just seemed to find their form.Mark Brooke making an excellent cross that fell perfectly onto the head of Sam Dibb for the first Leeds goal. The advantage Leeds had extended a couple of minutes later by Declan Doherty saw the first half close with Leeds leading 2-0

After the break Mark Brooke made a solid block tackle and took a shot on goal, stopped and cleared by a Bradford Defender who cleared the ball back to Mark who wasn't going to miss on his second attempt firing an unstoppable shot for a 3-0 lead. Then, to level up the midfield score sheet Dylan won through to get Leeds 4th goal. Every midfield player now having scored!

Bradford's persistence finally paid off half way through the second half as confusion in the Leeds defence conceded their first and only goal. 5-1 to Leeds!

Leeds now seemed content to pass the ball around and not push on the Bradford goal. And the defensive play was good enough to stop Bradford at every chance they created. Hawley and Hewitt providing a solid line that Bradford just couldn't break through. Then as parents were preparing for the final whistle Joe Wingfield found himself with a possible shot on the Bradford goal and almost without effort slid the ball in the net for the final insult. Within seconds the final whistle blew to see Leeds reaching the kind of form that we all knew they were capable of. A 6-1 win

Leeds City Boys U12's second match saw them travelling again, this time to Huddersfield (Town) Academy. Both teams were set for a difficult game as strong winds blowing diagonally across the pitch seemed likely to play an active part at some time throughout the game.Leeds began playing into the strong winds but seemed more than able to control the ball in difficult conditions. It was soon very apparent that both teams were looking to gain an early lead with some excellent balls being played through by both teams.Huddersfield were soon surprised as even with the advantage of a tail wind, Leeds created an opportunity and (15) took an early shot. Second half continued where the first half left off. But Leeds now with the head wind. This was an impressive game by both teams, the ball travelling end to end, both teams probing their opponents. Opportunities came and went, but neither team were able to score.

Leeds battled continually through the second half, never letting up on their desire to get the equaliser but it just wasn't to be. Both teams put on an impressive display in difficult conditions.
